When did you start making music and what was the contributor factor that made you to do so?
Hello everybody! I started creating music some years back, but it was mainly metal music and then one day I decided to go on my own path with what I feel that I really want to do. And that was around half of 2016 when I made that decision.
How hard was it for you to create, record and release your first material?
I did it for fun and to share the music, so never had any thoughts of having it bigger or something. Just wanted to show the world what I feel.
What is the main art form that influenced you in creating? Was it only music or did movies and other forms of art influenced your creative process?
A lot of music for sure, but of course movies and the music in them as well did influence me a lot.
What are the steps that an idea takes before becoming a fully fledge song? And how does that idea affects the way you build an album from the ground up?
I usually think of the main part what kind of tone should the song have and then expand it. It is hard to explain in few words, but when You have the proper feeling of the song and what You want to share by it, then it’s much easier to write.
What do you consider the most important traits that a song and an album must have before you consider it to be completed?
It has to have the proper vibe to create some thoughts in the listeners’ head. It cannot be just an album or just songs – it needs to be a story that I want to share with everybody.
What are the actual steps that you take when you are creating? Do you need to enter or go to a certain setting in order to get creative?
Usually I just take the guitar or a piano and try to create some melody which is the closest to the one sitting in my head. But I had a lot of situations while watching a movie or listening to different type of music where I hear some few seconds of notes that get into my head really fast and then I feel it’s the right time to sit down and start recording some new ideas.
Except art are there any other external or internal factors that influence you when you create, if so what are they?
Yes, a lot for sure! But it’s always life who is the best and main factor to influence us into creating not only music, but everything what feels right to do. So if You have an idea – go for it!
What is your main motivation to create and be creative?
I love creating music, but the main motivation for me are the fans who really support in each part of the journey. It’s just amazing when people are able to create their own stories while listening to your music. Thank you all for this!
How long does it take to go from a song to an album from scratch to the fully recorded version?
I would say that it’s up to a year to have everything ready including mix, artworks etc.
Do you take multiple takes of the songs before settling on the final version or do you go with the flow and just do one take?
Oh yes, sometimes it’s really a pain to have the perfect take. But sometimes the “not perfect take” has the proper feel and sound even better.
During live shows what do you like to do more, experiment and improvise on the basis of the existing album and songs or you are more likely to recreate the recorded material as faithfully as possible?
Distant Dream has been fully recorded by me and I found the best guys to work with me on live shows. We do recreate the songs, but it has some added vibes – different drums, additional guitar parts, and yes sometimes improvisations.
What are the main ingredients that makes a live show special for you?
The contact with people, that is and will always be the most amazing thing. That’s why I just love playing live.
Do new ideas appear during live performances? If so how to do you proceed in order to materialize them?
Yes, we try to fit with the setlist to the public and see their reaction. We do of course invest in a lot of equipment to have the live show as best as possible, so it’s usually an experiment on which we do work while playing. It’s fun, but can be sometimes stressful.
What is the perfect time of day and weather that makes you creative?
Late hours or even at night, that’s the time when the best ideas come into my head. That’s really strange as I am sometimes really tired after full day of work, but even then when coming back home I would be able to pick up the guitar at late night and start creating.
What are your future plans and what advice do you have for people that want to get into creating music?
Plans, a lot for sure. New album, tour Europe and US if possible, try new stuff on live shows, create new artwork etc. I want to expand DD social network pages and YouTube channel having maybe also some guitar lessons, FAQ and a lot more content. As for the advice – always believe in yourself and try new things, I know it’s sometimes easier to say than do, but when you start you’ll see that the effort was worth everything. Dreams don’t have to be distant! Marcin, DD.
