“seething, atmospheric, transgression-heavy industrial noise-rock” – Stereogum
Austin, TX industrial/punk duoStreet Sects thrive in the midst of infinite possibility and mutually assured destruction. With their forthcoming LP, The Kicking Mule, vocalist Leo Ashline and multi-instrumentalist Shaun Ringsmuth unleash a calculated assault on the senses rife with melodic tension, center-stage vocals, and neo-noir themes. Hear this new material played for the first time live on Street Sects’ upcoming tour—a full itinerary can be found below.
Following up End Position, their stellar 2016 debut, The Kicking Muleis comprised of ten vignettes transporting listeners to the frontlines of battles with mental illness, the rock bottom of addition, and the unsettled territory beyond. Though primarily known as aces of barbarous samples and electro jitters, The Kicking Muledenotes a seismic shift for the duo’s sound. Informed by the avant-garde lean of Eno-era Roxy Music and Bowie’s Berlin years, Street Sects have made peace with ghosts of the past and omens of the future.
Ashline and Ringsmuth’s longtime artistic partnership sprung into the world as Street Sects in 2013. Embracing the boots on the ground ethos of punk and the experimental zeal of the industrial scene, Street Sects have crafted a rawboned, bareknuckled sound anchored in deft lyrical storytelling.
The Kicking Mule will be released on October 26 via San Francisco-based label The Flenser and is available for pre-order here. Keep an eye out for more updates.
